Gowanus Canal Notecard Series
The ISBRANDTSEN pier sat half submerged when Mark D Phillips’ took the photograph in Gowanus Bay at the end of the Gowanus Canal in the early 1990s. The sight is long gone now, replaced by a Con Edison Generator Station on a brand new pier.
The interior states “Gone but not forgotten.”
The back of the card says:
ISBRANDTSEN pier collapsed into Gownaus Bay at the mouth of the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn, NY.
American Export-Isbrandtsen Lines, New York, was the leading US-flag shipping company between the U.S. east coast and the Mediterranean from 1919 to 1977.
