GOWANUS Low Tide Junk
Low tide reveals metal garbage under the milky water at the Carroll Street Bridge of the Gowanus Canal in the mid 1990’s. Runoff and Industrial waste have come into the Gowanus Canal since its inception. A local company was cited for dumping ice cream truck leftovers into the canal, creating milk water for several months before it was stopped.
The large amount of dumped material that could be seen at low tide at the Carroll Street bridge was finally removed in the late 1990’s during one of the attempts to clean the canal.
